Vintage French luggage, Gladstone bag, Kit Bag.
A traditional square mouth brown leather 'Gladstone' bag with stiff sides and cloth interior. The bag is made of cowhide leather, is fitted with four brass studded feet, a central push button lock, drop down clips on both ends and a single carry handle. The bag has a very good decorative appeal, condition is good but one hinge is slightly loose and stitching is coming undone in one corner. Embossed on the leather pull flap is 'CUIR DE VACHE GARANT', roughly translated means genuine cowhide.
Gladstone bags are named after the 19th cent British Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone; the bags are usually constructed of leather fitted over a metal frame.
