Leather Cigarette Case With Silver Fittings.
A fine leather two-part cigarette case with a good silver mount. The mount is hallmarked, Birmingham 1901, with makers initials AO, probably Adolphe Oppenheimer & Co. The inner slide has written in red ink 'F.de S. Shortt. Capt, R.S.F., Johannesburg, 30.7.02'. This was the property of Francis de Sausmarez Shortt. He was Captain in the Royal Scots Fusiliers and whilst in South Africa Shortt served as assistant provost marshal of Johannesburg from December 1900 to 15 September 1902.
Could also be used for business cards or credit cards.
