The book is a treatise on the origins and development of the game of Golf by Robert Clark, an Edinburgh printer. Among other treasures, it contains "The Goff", the famous poem which, when published in 1744, became the first book devoted entirely to golf. Full contents to long to list but include: Historical Account of the Game of Golf, The Goff: An Heroi-Comical Poem in Three Cantos, The Honourable The Edinburgh Company of Golfers, The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, The Musselburgh Golf Club, The Bruntsfield Links Golf Club, Edinburgh Burgess Golfing Society, Acts of Parliament, the Golf Song, In Praise of Gutta Percha, Far and Sure and the Index.
