Precious Gum: The Story of the Gutta Percha Golf Ball
A beautifully crafted limited edition boxed set golf book celebrating one of golf's most fascinating chapters - the story of the gutta-percha, or "gutty," golf ball.
Authored by David Hamilton and published by Partick Press, Kilmacolm (2004), "Precious Gum: The Story of the Gutta Percha Golf Ball" offers an engaging history and detailed account of the gutta ball's development, use, and legacy in the evolution of the game. The book is richly illustrated with line drawings by Chris Daunt, depicting the intricate stages involved in making "The Challenger" golf ball.
This wonderful boxed set includes three gutta specimens, showing the progressive stages of manufacture. The first is a crude sphere, second a moulded gutta with fin, and the third is the finished painted "Challenger" golf ball. These replicas were produced using an antique gutta press gifted to the author by renowned golf historian Archie Baird, adding authenticity and charm to the collection.
This is copy number 67 of a hand-numbered limited edition of 450, personally signed and inscribed by the author with the message "With the author's best wishes, David Hamilton, 2005."
Presented in an elegant tan cloth-covered clamshell box, the Precious Gum set is both a collector's treasure and a tribute to golf's enduring craftsmanship and history.
