Pair Of Wrought Iron Andirons
Pair Of Wrought Iron Andirons
Pair of Wrought Iron Andirons (Fire Dogs).
This beautifully crafted pair of wrought-iron andirons, also known as fire dogs, is designed for use in a large inglenook fireplace. Traditionally used to hold logs off the ground and improve airflow for a cleaner, more efficient burn, these examples also incorporate features associated with open-hearth cooking. Each andiron is built around a tall square upright fitted with three spit hooks, allowing spits to be positioned at various heights. At the top sit classic mulling cups or bottle warmers, originally intended for keeping small pots or drinks warm by the fire, and just beneath them are finely detailed serpent motifs that add character and decorative appeal. The pieces stand on elegant scroll feet with sturdy L-shaped rear support legs, giving them excellent stability and a distinctive traditional look. Robust, practical, and rich in period detail, this pair of fire dogs offers both historical charm and functional versatility for any inglenook fireplace.
