Early Lop Sided Lawn Tennis Racket

Early Lopsided Victorian Lawn Tennis Racket.
A rare, early lopsided (tilt head or teardrop shape) lawn tennis racquet in good original condition. The fine ash lop sided frame is in very good condition (handle slightly separated) and is very lightweight, probably a similar age as a Major Walter Clopton Wingfield's Sphairistike racket which were sold around 1874 and 1875. The walnut concave wedge bears no maker's stamp, but a round paper label. The original period thick gut stringing is in excellent condition, featuring six rows of trebling at the top and three at the bottom. The handle grip is made up of the ash frame with part of the walnut wedge, finished with a leather butt strip and a leather collar. Interestingly you would expect to find a white kid leather grip on this type of racket, but from appearances this has never had one fitted. The round paper
The paper label looks as if it could be a Retailers, Collectors or Museum label.
A wonderful Example of an early Lawn Tennis Racket.
