A very rare golf club carrier made of beech-wood and leather. Designed and patented by Harry Holbrook who was one of the "Apple Tree Gang" who founded the St. Andrew's Golf Club in Yonkers, NY in 1891. This wonderful antique club carrier is in good original condition. The frame bears a transfer decal label marked "Holbrook Club Carrier", although slightly chipped to read the USA makers details. The stand with leather club cup, ball bag and carry straps. The sprung wooden legs will fold back in when lifted with the handles. Many believe that this style of caddie dates from 1900, but there is a known advert for the 'Holbrook Club Carrier' and the golfing attire seen in the advert dates from around 1930's. The Wooden club carrier was not designed to take the place of a golf bag, but to carry six to eight clubs "for practice, for five o'clock golf . . . around putting greens . . . anywhere and anytime you don't need a full set.
