Rare Cricket Themed Egg Steamer.
The large and impressive silver plate egg steamer, boiler (or egg coddler) stands 26 cm high and is supported on three ball end legs. The steamer can be used to boil or coddle one or more eggs. The dome contains a four ring frame for holding the eggs while being cooked, there is a central loop handle to lift the device from the water. There is a cup to the base for holding the spirit lamp, its handle made of crossed cricket bats and a ball. The dome top with handle in the shape of a cricket bat with ball and a set of stumps. The base is stamped 'EPNS, 25934' with a symbol of a club with three stars.
Using an egg steamer meant that the eggs could be prepared at the table and served hot. The wire ring frame within the coddler holds the eggs under the boiling water keeping them warm, the burner underneath maintaining the temperature.
