Antique Snow Shoes, North American

Sold

ANTIQUE SNOWSHOES.
An attractive and outstanding pair of children's snow shoes constructed from bent hickory frames with stretchers and finely interlaced gut supports.
They are North American, in original condition. Snowshoes were a common form of transport and sport amongst North American natives and were later taken up by settlers like fur trappers. These were possibly made by the Cree or Objibwa Indian. Snow shoeing later became a weekend sporting activity that is still very popular in Amerika and now also in the Alps.
