Motorist Helmet. A Herbert Johnson motorist crash helmet. A fine light weight crash helmet which is made up of strips of linen soaked in shellac (to harden), ironed to the helmet form and then built up in layers to create an extremely hard shell. This helmet has a cork interior, fitted with a leather headband and straps keeping a space between the head and outer case of the helmet. Strong neck and ear flaps are also fitted as is a chin strap. At the rear of the helmet is a leather loop to fit a goggle strap, whilst at the front there is a small peak. Inside the helmet is a Herbert Johnson label.
