Bronze Elkington Golf Statue Of Harry Vardon.
A wonderful cast figure of the Champion Golfer Harry Vardon. The figure sculpted by Hal Ludlow and cast by the Elkington foundry. The impressive and well known figure of Vardon stands 12 ½ cm high. The last image is an Elkington & Co. Ltd. advert for the bronze statuette taken from the golf book 'Success At Golf' published in 1914. The figure was available in two sizes, this one at 5" costing 17/6 and a larger one at 24" costing £26 5s 0d.
Henry Stephen Ludlow (Hal) was born in 1861. He studied at Heatherleys and Highgate Art Colleges. He became a portrait painter and illustrator for the Illustrated London News, Sketch Magazine etc. Hal Ludlow was also a fine golfer, he won the 1904 Welsh National Amateur Championship.
