Hickory Shafted Putter By Cochrane & Co. Ltd.
The club with hickory shaft, polished leather grip and the head with a flanged bottom. The club was made by Cochrane & Co. Ltd. of Edinburgh and it is stamped with their 'Knight' cleek mark. The head is also stamped 'Challenger Rustless Metal' and within an oval the retailer or golf professional 'C. Carter Kangwon & Shanghai G.C.'. The bottom of the flange stamped 'XX Putter, Made In Scotland'.
Cochrane & Co. Ltd., Edinburgh, was founded by James Pringle Cochrane around 1895. In 1906 Cochrane was originally in the golf ball business but later, around 1910 he entered the golf club market, they became one of Scotland's major exporters of balls and clubs to the Empire and the United States. Cochrane's used the 'Bowline Knot' cleek mark as well as the 'Knight' and a monogram from 1915 until around 1939.
