Antique Golf Book, The Golf Courses of the British Isles Described by Bernard Darwin.
A fantastic first edition golf book written by Bernard Darwin, one of the greatest golf writers ever to put pen to paper. 'THE GOLF COURSES OF THE BRITISH ISLES, DESCRIBED BY BERNARD DARWIN, PAINTED BY HARRY ROWNTREE' was published in 1910 by Duckworth & Co., 3 Henrietta Street, Covent Garden, London. The book is with its original hard green cloth cover with embossed title and floral decoration to front and with gilt title to spine. The book has wonderful illustrations of famous holes of famous courses by Harry Rowntree and great descriptions of the individual courses by Darwin that make excellent reading. Amongst the courses in the book are St. Andrews, Sunningdale, Walton Heath, Rye and Hoylake.

Inside the front cover there is a bookplate of E. W. Swanton with his signature. E. W. Swanton (Ernest William) was an English journalist and author, chiefly known for being a cricket writer and commentator. Born 11th February 1907 and passed away 22nd January 2000. He was chiefly known for being a cricket writer and commentator, worked as a sports journalist for The Daily Telegraph, a broadcaster for BBC Radio for 30 years being a regular commentator on Test Match Special.

A bookplate, or ex libris, is a small print for pasting inside the cover of a book, to express ownership. By the late 19th century, bookplates had developed into a highly imaginative form of miniature art.
