Mahogany Cellaret, Callarette, Wine Box.
A very nice Georgian portable container used to store wine or liquor bottles. The mahogany cellaret is with a large brass carry handle and has two centrally hinged lids, with locks but no keys. The interior is with four compartments for the safe storage of bottles or decanters. It is made from good quality mahogany with very nice grain, rich colour and patina.

A cellaret or Cellarette is essentially a small portable wine cellar. Often made from mahogany, they stored bottles of various wines and spirits at room temperature. These bottles were usually filled up from the larger casks and barrels stored in the cellar of the house. It may look like a wine cooler, but whereas a wine cooler will have a lead or zinc lining to hold ice, a cellaret does not. They first appeared in the late 18th century but were seldom made after the 1850's.
