Cecil Aldin - The First & A Likely Spot.
A wonderful original pair of shooting and fishing chromolithograph prints by Cecil Aldin, titled The First and A Likely Spot. Both works are presented in their original oak frames with gilt slips and applied titles.
The First, the shooting scene, depicts a gentleman in a top hat who has just shot his first partridge of the day. A Likely Spot, the fishing scene, features a parson and a young boy-figures that appear in many of Aldin's works-enjoying a moment of quiet fishing.
These scenes also appear in Cecil Aldin's book A Sporting Garland, published in 1902 by Sands & Co. The book was divided into three sections devoted to fox-hunting, shooting, and fishing. Each section was accompanied by a principal illustration that was also issued separately as a large chromolithograph print. The shooting illustration was titled The First, fox-hunting In the Open, and fishing A Likely Spot.
