Equestrian Pastel Painting By W. Frank Calderon.
A wonderfully detailed original pastel drawing on toned paper of a grey hunter in profile, facing left. Framed in original oak frame with gold slip and glazing. The horse is saddled and bridled, standing on a plain, neutral background. The tack includes a brown leather saddle with stirrups and a bridle with reins. The artist has skilfully rendered the horse's musculature, coat texture, and subtle dappling on the flanks. Signed and dated lower-left corner: "W. Frank Calderon, Dec. 1916".
William Frank Calderon was a British painter known for his animal portraits, particularly of horses and dogs. This work exemplifies his focus on equestrian subjects during the early 20th century.
