Equestrian Oil Painting Of A Horse Fair
Oil Painting, At The Horse Fair By William Henry M Turner.
This painting is rich in detail and captures the atmosphere and social interactions typical of a traditional horse market day. The oil on canvas painting is in a gilt frame, signed and dated bottom left-hand corner 'W.H.M. Turner 1860' (William Henry Marmaduke Turner, fl 1849 - 1887). The rural scene depicting a horse fair or market with a large group of horses of various breeds and colours, one wearing a colourful saddle blanket. A number of men are gathered around the horses, seemingly to be inspecting, trading, or conversing about the animals. Two small dogs are visible near the bottom left of the painting, just above the signature.
