Foster Bros.

1833 - 1960
The history of Foster Bros. is a little sketchy, but appears they were originally established in 1833 as a metal working firm by David Foster. They became renowned for their fishing rods and accessories and held many patents. In about 1880 the two sons, William Henry and David Foster, were now running the business.
It appears they joined the golf trade after the First World War, making their own iron heads as well as woods. Their cleekmark was of a 'skeleton swinging a club', and they will be remembered for their patent 1920's putter, The Bogee, with its square hosel and back flange. The golf business continuing until the early 1930's whilst the fishing side lasted well into the 1960's.
