Rabone & Sons 66 Ft Metallic Wired Tape Measure.
The John Rabone and Sons tape measure is housed in a stitched seemed leather case. There is a brass central winding mechanism that neatly clips into a central hole when not in use. The leather casing embossed with 'Rabone's Metallic Wired Tape' on one side and 'John Rabone & Sons, Birmingham, England' on the other. There is also a broad arrow (crows foot) and 1947 embossed on the case, indicating that it was Government Issue.
The tape is fitted with a brass ring pull fixed to the start of the tape, this allows for the tape to be fixed for long distant measuring. Typically the measurement commences from the outside of the ring at the end of the tape, i.e. ring is included in the measurement. The measurements on the tape are marked in increments of inches and feet on the front side and in link measurements on the reverse side. Each inch increment is further broken down into half inches.
