Vintage Observation Binoculars, 10 X 80.
A pair of German ex military observation binoculars with 45º incline eyepieces mounted onto an aluminium cradle and gimble. The whole apparatus sits on a vintage adjustable wooden tripod that was manufactured by Wild, Heerbrugg, Switzerland. The binoculars are marked D.F. 10 x 80, beh OX, 28029, and are made by one of the best German optical manufacturers, Ernst Leitz GmbH of Wetzlar. beh is the secret manufacturing code assigned to Ernst Leitz by the German Army Ordnance Department. There are two knobs on the top of the binoculars, the knob on the right-hand side is for interocular distance adjustment, the left knob is marked 'mittel - hell - klar - dunkel' and is for the shade settings for the lenses, medium - bright - clear - dark. The eyepieces can be focused individually and the optical quality of the lenses is remarkable giving a stunning view. This is a fine pair of binoculars with a highly polished finish, giving it a sculptural look.
