Humorous Tennis Drawing By George Loraine Stampa.
A black and white pen and ink lawn tennis drawing, humorous cartoon illustration signed G. L. Stampa 1926. The picture depicts a comical mixed foursome lawn tennis match in progress. A man has dramatically fallen face-first onto the grass in a clumsy tennis mishap. His legs are in the air, his tennis racket is bouncing on the ground with a ball bouncing beside him. His playing partner is looking at him in disgust. The opposing team are watching the action unfold from the other side of the net. Caption beneath the image, handwritten in pencil, She: "Your's partner!"
He (politely): "No-not at all - y-you can have it!"
The artist, G.L. Stampa (George Loraine Stampa), was a well-known British illustrator and cartoonist, frequently contributing to Punch magazine, specialising in social satire and upper-class leisure humour.
