Victorian Novelty Golf Silver Plated Inkwell.
A fine quality plated golf inkwell with engraved inscription. The shield shape base is raised on three mesh gutty style golf ball feet. There are two ink wells mounted onto the base in the shape of gutter percha golf balls. The hinged lid on the golf ball inkwells open to reveal removable glass liners. Also set on the ornately engraved stand is a pair of crossed long nose golf clubs resting on a gate, creating an obvious pen rest. Engraved on the base are decorative foliage and within this is 'Presented - To - Adam Prentice MA - By His - Bible Class - As A Mark of Esteem - Prestonpans - Dec'r 5th 1887'. On the underside stamped 'G.WS' within a shield, EPNS, 6726, and engraved 'Jas Aitchison To the Queen, 80 Princes St. Edinburgh'.
A rare and very impressive piece.
