1934 Amateur Belgium Golf Open Championship Gold Winners Medal.
The medal was awarded to Francis Ricardo (Addington Golf Club) author-golfer and the winner of the 1934 Amateur Belgium Golf Open Championship. The medal, thought to be 18 carat gold, is embossed around the edge with 'Federation des Clubs Belges, de Golf' and engraved 'Championnat De Belgique Amateurs 1934'. The front embossed with a laurel wreath around the edge with two golf clubs, golf ball and a sun rise in the center. It is in it's original 'Coosemans' presentation box.

Francis Ricardo was a travel writer, amateur golfer and was known to be a Sunningdale member and a Surbiton Golf Club member in his time.

The price is for the medal only, photos and paper clippings are copies kindly lent by Francis' son.

The paper clipping are interesting and some snippets taken from them are below:-

Mr. F. Ricardo won in the Guildford and District Alliance tournament at Worplesdon. The scratch score of Worplesdon is 76, and Ricardo, who was a one handicap at the time, accomplished a gross score of 74. Ricardo won with a net score of 73, C.W. Pedler, professional at the Henley Club, playing from plus 2, being second with 75. Ricardo, whose free and delightfully easy swing enables him to hit the ball such great distances as to make the shots of the moderate driver appear, by comparison, very puny. He reached the twelfth (454 yards); where the entrance to the green is guarded by a deep bunker, with a drive and a spade-mashie.
Dual purpose Croquet-style Putter, it was Francis Ricardo "secret weapon". Launched into tournament play at the start of the 'President's Putter' at Rye in 1961. Ricardo, aged 56, chipped and putted croquet-fashion around the greens, the club had a square face on one side and the other lofted like a 7 iron. It caused controversy in the Clubhouse, was it legal, was it one club or two?
