Hickory Shafted Golf Club, Niblick
Hickory Shafted Golf Club, Niblick
Hickory Shafted Niblick - J.E. Lumb, Sowerby Bridge.
A fine hickory-shafted niblick, dating to circa 1910, from the heart of the classic hand-forged era of golf club manufacture. The face displays hand-punched markings arranged in a circular pattern, an early method of increasing friction and control from rough ground and sand-both decorative and functional, and a hallmark of traditional craftsmanship. The club retains its original suede sheepskin grip, a scarce and desirable survival that adds greatly to its authenticity and period character. The back of the head is stamped: J.E. Lumb - Sowerby Bridge - Special - Niblick. Accompanying this is an "L" within an oval, together with the stamp: Warranted Hand Forged.
These marks suggest the club was retailed or commissioned through J.E. Lumb of Sowerby Bridge.
Well-balanced and traditionally lofted, this is a great niblick for today's hickory golfer-fully playable while retaining strong period integrity. Approximate 46° loft & swing weight B3.
The measurements shown are the length of the shaft with hosel and the width and depth of the face.
