Walking Cane/Telescopic Horse Measuring Stick.
This is a good quality late Victorian, early Edwardian horse measuring stick in the form of a walking cane with original brass ferrule bottom. The handle top unscrews which reveals a concealed measuring stick, Arnold and Sons 35 & 36 West Smithfield, London. The brass and wood measure has measurements on two of the sides of the square shaft, Hands on one side and Feet & Inches on the other and will measure up to 5'9". There is also a brass arm which opens out from the body of the measure to make sure you are measuring straight!


Arnold and Sons were established in Smithfield, London, in 1819 as Arnold and Sons, manufacturers of surgical instruments and equipment. They were also makers of all types of Veterinary instruments and appliances and were instrument makers by appointment to Her Majesty's Government, the Royal Veterinary College, the Honorable Council of India; the Crown Agents for the Colonies; St. Bartholomew's Hospital; the Surgical Aid Society; and the principal provincial and colonial hospitals.
