Set of Four Lignum Vitae Lawn Bowls by Taylor-Rolph Co. Ltd
A set of four vintage lignum vitae lawn bowls by Taylor-Rolph Co. Ltd, London, featuring the sought-after 'Crescent Grip' pattern. The bowls are size 4¾, with a No. 3 bias, and retain their original discs at both ends, one plain and the other engraved with the initials "E.E.". Each bowl bears the maker's stamp: "Taylor-Rolph Co. Ltd., 4¾, Penshurst, Bias 3, H357, Crescent Grip, Kings, Regd Trade Mark No. 668011". The set also carries an official International Bowling Board (I.B.B.) expiry-date stamp for 1966, a marking system introduced around 1929.
The distinctive Crescent Grip was produced in right- and left-handed versions, requiring the manufacturer to know the player's preferred hand when the bowls were originally ordered. The grip appears on both sides of each bowl and they are supplied in an original Thomas Taylor carrying case.
The wooden display stands shown are sold separately and are not included with the set.
