The Lygon Arms Print, Broadway By Cecil Aldin

Sold

Cecil Aldin, Old Inns, The Lygon Arms, Broadway.
A very nice colourful chromolithograph by Cecil Aldin of The Lygon Arms in the Cotswold village of Broadway. The print is published by Eyre & Spottiswoode and is signed in pencil by the artist in the bottom left-hand margin. The frame is new. The Lygon Arms appeared in Aldin's book 'Old Inns' published in 1921 by Heinemann and was one of Aldin's most popular series, it was followed by Old Manor Houses (1923) and Cathedrals and Abbey Churches of England (1924).

From the 16th to 19th centuries, Broadway was a coaching centre on the busy London-Worcester road with teams of horses being changed there in order to get the coaches up the steep and often muddy Fish Hill.
