Vintage Italian Ice Axe, Chouinard.
A good 'CHOUINARD' ice axe, the handle is made from ash with a good serrated steel pick and with a good wide adze. This is a fine quality ice pick with a hole in the head for a securing leash, a pointed flat spike and a metal ferrule. The head is stamped 'CHOUINARD' with a C within a diamond, on the other side 'MADE IN ITALY, PREMANA ', a square with a mountain outline and the word 'CAMP' there is also a circle with a mountain outline and the word 'INTERALP'. A very good vintage ice pick in good condition.
Ice axes are multipurpose tools used by mountaineers in both the ascent and descent of routes in frozen conditions.
