Bamboo Shooting Stick, Sports Seat.
A good quality and attractive late Victorian folding bamboo sports seat, shooting stick with finely woven cane seat. Designed to serve both as a practical walking stick and a convenient portable seat, it features polished brass fittings (some of the original nickel plating is still visible) and decorative bamboo shaft with a metal point and disc at the base to provide stability on softer ground. The seat is stamped BTE. S.G.D.G. an abbreviation of the French term "Breveté Sans Garantie Du Gouvernement", meaning: "Patent without guarantee of the government", this was used in France for patented items until 1968. The bamboo shaft with initials "H.B.G".
A practical and collectible piece, ideal for country pursuits, sporting events, country walking, shooting, fishing or as a distinctive vintage accessory.
Height when closed for use as a walking stick 90 cm, seated height 75 cm, disc is 10 cm in diameter.
