G.G. Bussey 'The Oxonian' Model Tennis Racket.
A fine lawn tennis racket manufactured by George Bussey & Co. 'The Oxonian' from their crown series. The wooden lawn tennis racket in very good clean condition. The ash frame is straight and has a walnut convex wedge stamped 'The Oxonian' with a gold crown and 'Geo. Bussey & Co.'. The handle stamped with the weight in oz's 12½ and is with the original leather butt cap, end is stamped in gilt 'when not in use keep in press'. The racket has been professionally re-strung in period thickness gut. Bussey produced nine models from the crown series from the late 19th century until the beginning of the 20th century. The model names were - The Match - The Oxonian - The Club - The Champion - The Imperial - The Royal - The Prince - The Special & The Empire.
This is an early example.
