Vintage Boxed Gamages Croquet Set.
A good vintage garden croquet set in polished pine box with two rope carry handles that is stamped 'Gamages, Holborn' on the outside of the lid. The set comes with four ash croquet mallets with octagonal handles (which helps a player 'feel' the alignment of the mallet in play). To complete the set there are four balls in the standard croquet colours, six bent metal hoops, one finish post (the coloured bands indicating the order of play) and four sprung clips. The mallets are 36 inches in length with the ash handles having painted colour bands on them.
A great garden croquet set.
Gamages was a department store in central London. It began in 1878 and quickly became successful amongst its customers and soon grew large enough to take up most of the block on which it was situated.
