A humorous black and white rowing lithograph by the 20th century cartoonist and caricaturist H.M. Bateman (Henry Mayo Bateman, 1887 - 1970). The rowing picture was taken from a publication and is titled 'Mesmerism And The Boat Race' with the caption 'The merits of different rowing styles are perennially debated. Recourse to a little hypnotic influence might help the "run of the boat" quite a lot'. It is mounted in a red mount, underneath it is page 63 with a picture on the reverse, see last image.

Henry Mayo Bateman (1887 - 1970) was a British humorous artist and cartoonist, he produced artwork for Punch, Tatler and many other magazines besides, including the Illustrated Sporting News and Dramatic News and Pearson's Weekly.
