Normandy Glass cider or wine carafe
French 19th century trio of beautifully simple and elegant, blown glass carafes. These are robust, thick-bodied, striated glass decanters with heavy bases. The trio comes in very good antique condition with normal wear.
This huge carafe will hold 4 bottles quite comfortably - provided you can lift it!
The shape is typical of late George III carafes and decanters, but the neck flares to the rim more than an English example - which is not surprising as it is French! It is said that such large carafes were for cider, and probably they were, as they were made in Normandy where cider apples grow. However, the shape and style is very suitable for wine.
