Vintage Fox Hunting Print.
A very colourful original chromolithograph after Harry Neilson, "Mr. Fox's Hunt Breakfast on Xmas Day". A humorous hunting picture in original condition, with title. Framed in an old pitch pine 'Oxford' frame, printed for The Penny Illustrated paper, Christmas Number, in 1897.
There are some marks and stains to the print.
Little is known about the artist, Harry Bingham Neilson (1861-1941), except that he was a sporting illustrator and painter, based mainly in Cheshire. He wrote and illustrated "How to draw in pen and ink" in 1905 and was the illustrator for Sir Francis Burnald's book entitled "The Foxes Frolic". His painting of "Mr. Fox's Hunt Breakfast on Xmas Day" is said to represent five members of the Blankney (Lincs.) Hunt circa 1900.
