Snaffles WW II Military print "Blimy! Wot a Life".
A coloured Snaffles lithograph entitled "Blimy! Wot a Life" showing a battleship in the middle of a storm. The sailors on board are looking skywards at a passing aeroplane. The margin has a remarque depicting a destroyer in a storm with the full title quote "Blimy! Wot a Life, West of Gib, and North Across the Bay (R.K)". The print is with a Snaffles signature in pencil and the Snaffles blindstamp. Framed in a new black frame.
Charles 'Snaffles' Johnson Payne (1884 - 1967) was an English painter who specialised in water colours, and who's subject matter was invariably equestrian (racing, hunting, polo and pig sticking), military or a combination of these. Snaffles had a very distinctive style by showing just one person in detail, in addition he added remarques and amusing captions to supplement the pictures and main title.
