Vintage British Railways Travel Poster, 'Edinburgh'
by Claude Buckle.
A striking, framed and mounted travel poster after Claude Buckle titled 'Edinburgh'. The travel poster was produced by British Railways (BR) to promote rail travel to Edinburgh, Scotland. It is a large beautiful and colourful illustration showing the Scott Monument standing in Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh, the view is from the National Gallery. The monument was erected in memory to the great Scottish novelist and poet, Sir Walter Scott. It is in excellent condition but with some folding creases. Printed in Great Britain by Stafford and Co. Ltd., Netherfield, Nottingham. The original artwork for the poster was by the celebrated British artist Claude Buckle.

Claude Henry Buckle RI., RSMA. (1905–1973) was born in London and trained as an architect, but turned to art in the late 1920's. He produced some 85 posters and 25 carriage prints for the railways, making him one of the most prolific and recognised railway poster artists. He produced posters for Great Western Railway (GWR), LMS, SR & BR with much of his original poster artwork being held at the National Railway Museum. He worked in both oils and watercolours and was a close friend of Terence Cuneo, another well known poster illustrator.
