A framed team photograph of Cowley St. John Cricket XI., Winners of the 1912 'Airey' Challenge Cup. The photo is mounted on the official photographers mount 'Norman Taylor, Oxford' with good strong blue calligraphic legend. The winning team listed as follows:-
H. Hodgkinn, A. C. Miller, H. N. Nichols, T. Rose, W. H. Millin (absent), F. Hodgkins, E. Grant, J.A. Howells, R. Goodey (Capt.), B. C. Parr, A. W. Burborough, A. E. Hodder and H. G. Smith.
Cowley St John CC; who celebrated their centenary in 1974 and Headington United Cricket Club merged in 1994 and became known as Oxford Cricket Club.
While friendly cricket had been popular since the 1860's, an organised competition appears to have first been played in the County in 1890, when the Airey Cup was established.
