#23667

A magnificent silver plated trophy of exceptional quality with figures of tennis players sitting on top of the handles and another on the lid. The figures are dressed in plus two style trousers with long socks and long sleeved collar-less shirts.
The front of the trophy is engraved - Champion Cup Presented to the B. C. and L. T. Club by C. E. Baring Young Esq. MP. - We can date this trophy fairly accurately as Baring - Young was a MP from 1885 - 1892. He was also the founder of Kingham Hill School in Oxfordshire.

N.B. The engraving of the tennis scene depicts a gentleman wearing a striped shirt - We believe this player to be H. F. Lawford, as far as we know he was the only player known to wear such a shirt. He was a Wimbledon winner in 1884.
