ANTIQUE SAILING YACHTING PICTURE.
This picture depicts the Members of the Royal Thames Yacht Club in 1885. It is a fine photomontage, meaning the original image is created from individual photographs with partly painted scenery. The method is a photogravure after H.Y. Brooks, published by Boning & Small, 22 Baker Street, London, 15th Aug. 1885. The main person to note is No.1 (center right, holding a telescope, sat on the rock), H.R.H. the Prince of Wales.
Image size 25” x 35”.
The picture comes with the original key naming all of the 167 members on the image. It is also framed and is 10 ½” by 13”. The picture is signed in pencil in the margin by Brooks and by Boning & Small. The firm Boning & Small was a partnership between Robert Boning & Charles James Small who operated a photographic portrait studio in London at 22 Baker Street for ten years, from 1878 until 1888.
