A Malloch of Perth side casting fishing reel of fine quality in good condition. The reel is of aluminium and brass construction with optional check with one horn and one ivorene handle. The guide eye remains stationary on the fixed arm allowing the line to pass through in which ever position the reel is being used. The convex surface on the flange on the casting side assists in the escape of the line. The Malloch's Patent oval logo is stamped on the winding plate. Stamped on the drum: Mallochs Patent.
Size.: 3 1/4 in.
Peter Malloch was born in Almondbank, near Perth in Scotland in 1853. With his brother James they went into business in 1875 as Taxidermists and fishing tackle suppliers. In 1884 in Britain, Malloch was second to patent a fixed spool casting reel but he was the first to market it successfully.
