Brass Club Fender, Dipped Front.
A wonderful club fender with an open front, brass tube uprights and moulded brass base. The upholstered green seat is 16 cm wide with the measurements inside the seat being 1m 24 cm. The front opening is 64 cm wide.
The idea with the open front of the fender is to retain access to the fire and to allow more heat to escape into the room and with a fender you also add an extra dimension to a fireplace by providing more seating.
Fenders were all the rage in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries and were found in Gentleman's Clubs, libraries and billiard rooms of country houses.
